The Opportunity

A well-established and growing care home provider based in Staffordshire is seeking to appoint an experienced Non-Executive Director (NED) to strengthen its Board as the organisation continues to enhance quality, governance, and sustainable growth.

This is a strategic appointment, suited to an individual with strong board-level experience in regulated environments, ideally within healthcare, social care, or related sectors. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing independent challenge, oversight, and strategic guidance to the executive team.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

As a Non-Executive Director, you will:

  • Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to the executive leadership team

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the long-term strategy, including growth, quality, and financial sustainability

  • Support strong clinical governance, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance, including CQC standards

  • Ensure appropriate risk management, internal controls, and assurance frameworks are in place

  • Act as a sounding board to the CEO and senior executives on strategic, operational, and people matters

  • Contribute to Board committees as required (e.g. Quality, Audit & Risk, Remuneration)

  • Uphold the organisation’s values, culture, and commitment to high-quality resident care

  • Support stakeholder engagement, including regulators, commissioners, investors, and families

Qualifications

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Proven experience as a Non-Executive Director, Chair, or Senior Executive

  • Strong understanding of regulated care environments (care homes, healthcare, social care, or adjacent sectors)

  • Experience of CQC regulation, governance, and quality frameworks (highly desirable)

  • Commercial acumen with the ability to balance quality of care and financial performance

  • Experience supporting organisations through growth, transformation, or operational improvement

  • High levels of integrity, independence, and sound judgement

  • The confidence to challenge constructively while maintaining strong Board relationships

Time Commitment

  • Typically 1–2 days per month, including Board meetings, preparation, and occasional ad-hoc support

  • Hybrid approach, with in-person Board meetings in Staffordshire
